You will be encouraged to share your emotions with a trained counsellor, who will listen and support you without judgement or criticisms. The sessions can help you gain a better understanding of your feelings, thought processes and facilitate the process to discover your own solutions.
Counselling can help you cope with:
a difficult life event (ie. bereavement, relationship breakdown, work-related stress, discovery of an upsetting physical health condition, etc.)
dealing with overwhelming emotions (ie. low self-esteem, anger, etc.)
a mental health condition (ie. depression, anxiety, etc.)
Seeking counselling does not mean something is wrong, it can help in areas such as:
Finding clarity in certain aspects of life
Learning to discover new possibilities to cope with difficult situations
Focusing on personal growth
You may be offered a single session of counselling, a short course of sessions (over a few weeks or months), or a longer course (that lasts for several months or years). It can take several sessions before you start to see progress from the process.
